The most famous Neapolitan Mastiff
I think many people are familiar with the Harry Potter films, where the loveable giant, Hagrid has a big, butvery friendly dog, Fang. The dog, according to the book is a boarhound, alias a Great Dane, but in the film it is played by 4 different Neapolitan Mastiffs . The dog in this film is a constantly slobbering, faithful companion, that is very protective of his master, Hagrid and will greet everyone with loud barking who enters their hut. Fang is fond of the young magicians, he loves to follow and help all of them during their adventures, and is even able to help them in dangers.
This dog breed played another role in the film Babe: Pig in the city, where a Neapolitan Mastiff acted as Alan, the dog.
In life – just like in the films -, this breed is a fearless and very protective dog. They are extremely intelligent and independent, therefore requires early socialization and lots of rewarding. They are a large breed, so they are not advised for beginner dog lovers.
